It has been a while I have written something, a long while. I know. But for some reason I was feeling uninspired. That is no longer the case and I am back again! 

Here in Egypt, to be very honest, there are lots of people that start to design or style but very few are truly talented and have the creative eye and a sense of style to create something new and inspiring.  But with that said, I want to bring your attention to an Egyptian girl with great style and crafty hands.  A girl with true potential and her name is Farah El Sayed.  She studied fashion design in London but found her true calling in styling.  I first saw her work a couple of months ago but was lucky enough to spend the day with her last week and she is adorable, sweet and fun but more importantly she understands how to create art through fashion.  I want to share with you some of her previous work so you can get inspired and understand what I mean by creating art through fashion.  

Farah, thanks for bringing back the hope in me that talents will arise, it just takes longer than usual but I guess that just makes finding someone new even sweeter.

Review: Marni x H&M Launch in Cairo

You must be thinking didn’t Marni x H&M launch a couple of months ago? Yes, it is late to arrive in Egypt but that is due to our fabulously amazing customs bureau.  But the collection has finally arrived, or at least some of it, and is available starting today at City Stars.  

So my views on the collection are as follows.  My favorite items from the collection have to be the jewelry.  If you know Marni, the brand, you know that they make the coolest jewelry ever, or at least so I think.  While you can’t really compare the two, I definitely loved what was created for the H&M line.  From color blocked bangles, fun necklaces to layer on top of each other to even a large paillette bib collar, you’ll be lucky if you get your hands on any of these items because they sell out the fastest.  As for the clothing, there are some pieces I like such as the polka dot swimsuit, the mixed print maxi dress, the brocade skirt, the polka dot coat and the leather camel & gray top.

Egypt’s first online retailer, Style-treasure.com, is hosting its first exhibition this Saturday, for one day only, at Sofitel Gezira.  The exhibition will feature brand new collections from the pan Arab designers stocked on the online portal.  Not only will local designers be present but also designers will be flying in from Jordan, Beirut and Dubai.  To top it all off, Yousra the Egyptian actress, will be opening the exhibition for all you fans out there!

The exhibition will not only have a free gift wrapping corner for all your Mother’s Day gift purchases but will also offer giveaways for those who spend more than LE 2,000.

The Amina K. SS12 Fashion Show

Amina K.’s SS12 launch event was yesterday and here is my review.  I loved that the venue was laid back and not an uptight runway with annoying bleacher like seats.  The tables were decorated with threads found throughout the theme of the collection campaign, which I fell in love with when I first saw it in January.  The back wall at Left Bank was taken over by the designer for a mini shop ‘n shop. 

The collection was colorful with lots of floral prints and newly introduced silhouettes.  Most of the slouchy jersey was accented by gold woven cotton trims. My favorites have to be the multi-layered shirts and the flirty blouses. You can never not notice the ease and flexibility of the Amina K. brand and her clothing.  Overall, one of her best collections yet!

Amina K.’s SS12 Launch

The talented Amina K. is launching her Spring/Summer 2012 collection this coming Monday, the 12th of March, at Left Bank.  The collection titled “Connecting threads” is inspired by the fascinating, multi-cultural world we live in today; translating into multi layered clothing and designs.  As in every Amina K. collection, her love of matching unconventional prints, colors, styles and fabrics is apparent. 

Throughout the collection you will find new silhouettes with an elegant yet trendy look combining soft chiffon or slouchy jersey with stiffer fabrics such as woven cottons and linen in a balance of colors such as petrol and magenta, light shades of green and peach with bright blues and reds. 

One of our favorite items of the collection are the Multi Layered Shirts, which were inspired by a deconstructed shirt project Amina worked on when studying fashion in university.  After playing around and combining two shirts into one, the end result is a piece that can be worn in endless ways.  While this collection is a more modernized one for Amina K. she still manages to remain true to her identity, maintaining an ethnic look with Egyptian rug materials mixed with floral and color washed printed chiffon. 

At the event you will be able to view the full collection during the fashion show, which starts at 8 P.M. and buy the newest items at her shop in shop.
