Yesterday I passed by the Amina K. SS13 collection launch in Zamalek and I was impressed.  As soon as you spot the location you’ll find an array of colorful clay pots (2olal) welcoming you to the cute Zamalek nook.  Then you find yourself walking through a zen-like cobblestone passageway to enter the wovenshreds boutique.  The boutique itself was well thought out with the first room displaying the stunning turquoise woven bamboo wall with a mannequin sporting a floral & colorblock look, another wall with pictures of SS13 lookbook modeled by Tara Emad and the final wall displaying the colorful woven clutches.  Then the racks of clothing begin…

The clothes themselves are comfy, cool and classic Amina K.  You’ll find many comfy pants, jumpsuits and maxi dresses in different silhouettes and prints coming in cotton and linen with woven accents.  The cool pieces have to be the biker vests and jackets with a woven back, which can be worn either zipped up or open for a more comfy and loose look.  The classic Amina K.’s are the many shirt and cardigan options whether colorblocked or floral coming in popping colors.

Here are the pics I took to share with you!

These are my favorite looks from the SS13 lookbook.

Today is the last day to check out the Boutique experience in Zamalek.  You have til 9PM and I say it is worth the trip.

Location: 5 Sheikh el Marsafy Street, Ground Floor, Zamalek

The layering expert, dubbed by me, Amina K. is back this fall with a collection that is definitely one of my favorites.  Showing a mature structured sophistication, the collection of mainly outerwear, is spectacular.  Taking the traditional abaya as an inspiration and transforming it into modern silhouetted jackets, vests, and capes is just what we need this fall.  The outerwear patchwork of fabrics comprise of wool scarf material used by Egyptian farmers ‘Falaheen’, brown suede, other printed or colored cottons.  Pair the outerwear with chiffon colorblocked blouses, paisley and plaid shirts and you get the boho vibe that has become synomymous with Amina K., but more refined.

I definitely am a huge fan of the new mature Amina K.  Are you?

The collection can be found at Beymen Nile Plaza and at the designer's boutique in 24 Thawra St., 7th Floor, Dokki

Were you at Cairo’s Fashion Night yesterday?  If you missed out you have one more night to make up for it! Tonight is the exciting night with cool events planned at Ghazl Banat, Amuse, Villa Baboushka and much more. You know we aren’t ones to miss out on anything fashion related.

Ghazl Banat is having a complimentary styling session with Kegham from 7-8, the uber stylist who has worked at Liberty London! We will be there covering on air for a new, exciting announcement I can’t wait to share with you.

Amuse is doing karaoke for a whole night of fun with the House of Egypt showcasing their collections and for the best part of it all, a free design consultation with Nana’s Closet, Egypt’s hippest pret-a-porter designer.  You can finally see your dream outfit designed for you while enjoying music, drinks and more.

Villa Baboushka will be rocking it again tonight with trunk shows, on every hour from 8-10.

We will definitely be at all three locations tonight and hopefully more.  Come meet us for your chance to be on air!

We couldn’t cover it all in one day but we managed to go to the Azza Fahmy, 69, and the designer lounge yesterday.  Azza Fahmy was the ‘It’ place to be with professional photographer Hussein Shabaan taking portraits of fashion forward ladies wearing Azza Fahmy's latest pharaonic collection. Below are some teaser pics of last night.

Aren’t you proud a strong female was exibiting Egypt’s beautiful haute couture craftsmanship and her modern and uber cool designs at London Fashion week? Egypt’s top pret-a-porter designer, Dina Said, showed her Nana’s Closet Spring/Summer 2012 at LFW and represented Egypt magnificently.  Showcasing with 5 other designers, Nana’s Closet was definitely the most stunning yet wearable collection.  After the show, I made it a point to get feedback from the attendees and models; everyone only had fabulous things to say.

The scene was spectacular with a roster of attendees including the chic Egyptian Ambassador to London’s wife, some of Cairo’s socialites and one of our top models, in addition to, London based buyers, press and a football player.  The atmosphere backstage was tense, but also exciting.  Once the music started, the payoff of all the hard work finally began.  The music, which was mixed by Adam Murad, was a dusty fusion of a mod strut beat crossed with the arabesque oud instrument.  Quoting the designer, the music had “a bit of a Tarantino vibe”.  Look after look, Dina kept wowing the crowd with stunningly styled looks catering to many women.

Now onto the clothes, the collection inspired by a mod world was aptly titled “Real Women Drive Scooters”.  With her trademark embellishments and gorgeous designs this collection was a mix of soft yet somehow hard silhouettes in ombre shades of lime green and grey paired with white and red.  We saw beaded vests, tailored blazers, drapped tops, cropped tops, jersey cardigans, and dazzling jumpsuits, a Nana’s Closet staple.  The makeup on the models was trendy yet polished with clean skin, a glossed light pink lip and statement polka-dotted eyes.  The costume jewelry and gorgeous belts highlighted her designs while being able to make a statement on their own.

Some our favorite looks were the white beaded top with cutout tulle and satin fringe bottom, the navy beaded top with tassel embellishments worn with a pleated short to long ombre skirt paired with an oxford peplum blazer, and the perfectly tailored white tux with a black trimmed lapel paired with a cropped white lace top adorned with beading.  The show-stopping red cut-out strips of chiffon dress was just the right finale to an excellent show.

Overall, the show was spectacular, the collection was beautiful, and the job was accomplished to tip top perfection.  Congratulations Dina and we can’t wait for what you’ll show us next!
